Coconut Milk Powder

At Wilderness Athlete, we aren’t shy to say that we think very highly of the products we formulate. The rigid standards we set for our formulations reflect the high demand we place on our bodies and there is no room for anything that doesn’t fuel our health and performance. We hold the same high standards with any company we associate with, and the unyielding expectations Heather’s Choice demands of their dehydrated backcountry meals mirrors this philosophy and approach to nutrition.

We wanted to dig a little deeper into an ingredient that can be found in several of Heather’s Choice meals and hear from the woman herself about what Coconut Milk Powder brings to the “table”.

“Our mission at Heather’s Choice is to put healthy, delicious calories into people’s packs. When we’re talking about backcountry trips, we’re working to get a LOT of calories into a nice small package that can go anywhere with you. That’s why we use coconut milk powder in a lot of our products. It is LOADED with calories (190 calories per ounce) and it contains healthy, easily digestible fats. Medium chain triglycerides, a type of fat found in coconut, is quickly metabolized by the liver for energy. Because the calories contained in medium chain triglycerides are more efficiently turned into energy, they are less likely to be stored as body fat. We specifically chose a coconut milk powder that is completely free of casein and maltodextrin so we can continue to offer meal and snack options that are gluten, soy, corn and dairy-free.”

“We add coconut milk powder to our meals not only for the added calories, but because it’s also delicious! Coconut milk powder makes everything taste delicious and creamy, while still being dairy free! In our Smoked Sockeye Salmon Chowder, we add a couple tablespoons of this ingredient to give the dish a smooth consistency, while boosting the calories. In addition, you’ll find coconut milk powder in our five flavors of Buckwheat Breakfast. This gives our hot cereal a delicious texture that will you remind you of a piping hot bowl of oatmeal made at home.”
